Found this place while searching for another AYCE Korean BBQ spot besides our usual, and we had no idea it had been here since July/August 2025! **916 Grill St. & Shabu Zen** is located in the Waipio area across from Corps Field, in the old Outback location between Taco Bell and the Aloha Gas Station. The renovations really brightened up the place. The outside entry area is clean, with lots of seating and a cute little Japanese garden display. When you walk in, the hostess gives you the option of **Yakiniku or Hot Pot**. Of course, we chose yakiniku. 😊 We were greeted by our awesome waiter, Than, who was super welcoming and outgoing—it felt like we were family. He explained all the menu options: **Ala Carte, Combo, or AYCE**. He took his time and talked story with us. We didn't feel rushed at all. Since it was just the two of us, we chose the starter AYCE option. We also ordered fried rice, steamed egg, and kimchi jjigae off the appetizer menu. The food came out quickly, and the portions were great. The brisket slices were big, the pork jowl was on point, and the pork belly was perfectly sliced. One thing we really liked was the size of their grill—it’s larger than most yakiniku places. The meats and vegetables cooked evenly, and we didn’t have to deal with temperature changes during the meal. We finished with the Honey Toast dessert… OMG, delicious! Thanks to Than for recommending it. Wish you could’ve taken a break to join us! 😁 This place definitely deserves more attention (like someone else mentioned in another review). We’d love to see it packed! The seating works well for groups and families, but they also have intimate seating for 2–4 people. There’s also a bar toward the back where you can grab a drink and watch some sports. The team was always moving and very attentive. Our drinks stayed filled, sides were replenished, and our meat orders came out quickly. We are very big on excellent customer service and the team here provide exactly that. Than is genuine and sincere and he made our experience there a great one. We’ll definitely be back to try the hot pot side next time. And don’t forget to join their rewards program!
Great restaurant. Second time coming here. Lunch the first time, dinner the second time. For me, dinner is worth the extra money. Broth tasted better and the beef was of better quality. Awesome service: friendly, quick, and attentive. We will be back.
Okay, people need to be talking about this place more, because just with trying the Yakiniku Side... I'm SOLD! 👍 Great service from our server Ian. 👏 The portions are friendly if you're choosing from Ala Carte, also the price is decent! So... if you're looking for a place with Yakiniku, or even Hot Pot... this is your place to go! But for those who are in the know... let me put it this way... 916 is a combination of these three restaurants in name: Sik Dorak, Hot Pot Heaven or even Hot Pot in Pearlridge, and last but not least... Shokudo. ✨️✨️✨️ Eating here was definitely an experience that I WILL come back to. 😋 Also...their Dessert is the INFAMOUS ✨️🌟🍯🍞 HONEY TOAST!!! 🍯🍞🌟✨️ I cannot say it enough when I say that as soon as they brought out the honey toast and that once I took a bite... I was absolutely sold. Yakiniku and ending the night with Honey Toast that is reminiscent to Shokudos? Absolute GOLD 💯 🏅 I again cannot say it enough, I AM SOLD! Also, you get to take home left overs if you can't finish your meal. 😋 Also...Kawaii-Kon Goers... IYKYK. >:3
Good spot in Waipahu. Lunch portion seems more worth it especially because I don’t eat that much. Food was fresh, broth wasn’t flavorful or spicy to me so I ended up using a lot of sauces from the bar. I enjoyed all the veggies and seafood choice too. The meats were pretty good too. Inside is clean and quiet, staff were nice, plenty of parking and seating too.
Great fun place for dinner. We were on the bbq side for the carnivores in the family. Great- attentive service. Fresh food- great selection. Nice to finally have a new restaurant in the Waipio area.
