I’m giving Goen Dining and Bar 3 stars. The experience was mixed: there were some positives, but also a few things that really need improvement. We were seated fairly quickly and the staff were polite and checked on us a couple of times, which I appreciated. The atmosphere is nice for a casual night out, with a comfortable dining area and a relaxed vibe. Drinks were decent and came out in a reasonable amount of time. The biggest disappointment was the Brussels sprouts. They came out soft and a bit soggy (both steamed and roasted) instead of having that crisp, roasted texture you usually expect. The seasoning was quite mild, so the dish tasted flat and didn’t have much depth or charred flavor. For a menu item that usually shines at many restaurants, this one fell short and felt like it needed more attention to both cooking time and seasoning. Some of the other dishes were okay but not particularly memorable — nothing that made me feel like I “have to come back” for the food. Portions were acceptable for the price, but not enough to offset the underwhelming flavor of the Brussels sprouts. Overall, Goen Dining and Bar is an average spot: fine if you’re already in the area, but I’d suggest trying different menu items and hoping for more consistency in the kitchen.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My husband and I celebrated our 10-year anniversary at Goen Dining + Bar and the experience was absolutely phenomenal from beginning to end. Our server, Jesse, was incredible—attentive, personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely made us feel cared for throughout the entire evening. She helped make our anniversary feel truly special. We started with the appetizers, and they immediately set the tone for the night. The Smoked Salmon Dip with mentaiko aioli, shichimi wontons, and tomato pesto relish was rich, smoky, creamy, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of texture and spice. We also had the Golden Cali Bites made with crispy fried crab mix & spicy tuna, avocado, kabayaki, and truffle aioli—which were absolutely addictive. Crispy, savory, slightly sweet, and packed with flavor in every bite. We then had the Hau’ula Green Growers Farm House Salad with yuzu yukari vinaigrette, sunflower sprouts, red onion, feta cheese, and house granola. It was incredibly fresh, vibrant, and a perfect palate refresher between courses. For entrées, we ordered the Slow Cooked Crispy Skin Smoked Salmon with HI Earth Farms roasted vegetables and parmigiano garlic butter gremolata, which was beautifully prepared with crisp skin and rich, comforting flavors. But the true standout of the evening was the Misoyaki Butterfish with cha soba noodles, tsukemono, ponzu, lomi tomato, and ikura. We have been to many places and tried various butterfish from countless restaurants, and this butterfish essentially cannot be beaten. The flavor-to-ingredient ratio was beyond describing. Every single bite salivated every tastebud on my palate. The fish was buttery, delicate, perfectly cooked, and paired so intentionally with every component on the plate that it honestly became one of the best dishes we’ve ever had. For dessert, we shared the Halo Halo made with azuki bean, berries, strawberry & mango ice, coconut ice cream, ube flan, and condensed milk, along with a complimentary Basque Cheesecake topped with honey brown butter, whipped cream, and mixed berries. Both desserts were exceptional and the perfect ending to such an unforgettable meal. Compliments to the chef and a special thank you to Jesse and the team at Goen for making our anniversary dinner so memorable. We’ll absolutely be back.

Visited Goen to meet a friend and had a great experience. The space is open, big, and really inviting. A nice place to hang out and catch up. We ordered the beef with mashed potatoes, some sushi, and the fish and chips. Everything tasted good and came out nicely prepared. We also had a few drinks, and the overall vibe was relaxed and comfortable. There’s parking available, and we didn’t have to wait for a table, which made it even better. Solid spot for a casual meal, drinks, and good conversation. Would return.

Love the open air, laid back atmosphere & Food was excellent. Filet Mignon with truffle was so soft & flavors went well. They also were able to switch out the mashed potatoes for the polenta which was so creamy. It might have been busy when I went so service was a little slow, but their servers are awesome & friendly. Highly Recommend

We had an excellent experience here! Both my husband and I agreed it was the best meal out we've had in ages! The cocktails were also made perfectly. The staff was friendly and attentive. I especially loved the musician and that the music was clear but not blaring. We will def be returning, esp on Tues with that specific musician. I apologize I didn't get his name to give him proper credit.
