Lovely place, excellent food and warm service. The owners were very charming. One of them tried to help me pick something from the menu, but he sold everything so well what it was impossible to decide 😅 I went with the local fish crudo (it was ahi) and the octopus. Both were really good, but the octopus was amazing. The goat cheesecake was also excellent. I'd love to go back and try more things, but I'm just passing by. Please go for me next time and I'll enjoy it vicariously through you.
We found this restaurant simply by browsing Google Maps. It sits away from the main tourist areas of Waikiki, so—I assume—there aren't many casual passersby. We visited on a weekend evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary during our Hawaiian vacation. The selection of wines and local craft beers was modest but more than sufficient; we easily found drinks we liked. The atmosphere is cozy and calm—quiet enough to hold an easy conversation. The interior is pleasant and has a touch of its own character—nothing extraordinary, but certainly charming in its own right. We tried to pick the most interesting items on the menu, and everything we tasted was delicious and expertly prepared. We had no complaints whatsoever about the balance of flavors or the creativity of the dishes. As I understand it, the restaurant focuses on local ingredients prepared with a local twist. In my personal opinion, if Michelin Guide inspectors were ever to visit Oahu, this restaurant would certainly deserve a place in the guide—perhaps not a star, but easily at the level of a Bib Gourmand or a Michelin Plate. I wish the owners continued success and hope they keep up these high standards. I highly recommend it—especially to anyone open to new discoveries and a bit of culinary experimentation.
We came for our cousins birthday dinner with 12 people in total and got a pre fix family style meal: each one ordered in advance. It was a ton of food with boxes upon boxes of leftovers, and at over $100 per person since we ordered a ton, it was costly, but it was a very very special dinner. It was the best dinner at a restaraunt I’ve had here in Hawaii ever, and one of the best in the us without any Michelin recognitions. It felt like a fine dining experience but with much larger dishes. Each of the dishes had their own unique texture and taste. They first bought out appetizers which were delicious vegetables which were nice and rich such as the eggplant dish and the carrots. The carrots were the best carrots I’ve ever had with the sauce. Just so rich and soft and delecant. The curry balls were also amazing. The octopus was so tender in the green pesto like sauce, the clams and the sausage went so well together. The ulu was very unique and the beef pasta was very rich and soft. We preordered two cakes but they gave it to us after everything was done and three desserts to share which had unique flavours. They weren’t like something you would find in NYC, the sorbet wasn’t vanilla or something basic; it was me and guava and each of the desserts looked very special. Definitely want to eat here again. The bread is special enough! The service was very good. They however usually took a very long time in between courses and giving us takeout containers but it was professional. And be careful when using the bathroom because I tripped over the ledge. Overall a top notch place to go to celebrate without having to pay for tiny Michelin courses. It was a feast.
My hubby took me to a bday dinner here last week and I’ve got to say that everything we tried here was a 10/10 and took a leap out of the culinary comfort zone, elevating Hawaiian food and letting locally farmed produce shine. I’ve never been so proud to be eating reimagined Hawaiian food, and enjoying a twist on a classic beverage. I’ve already told my gals we are due for a girls night out at this restaurant. The ambiance- 10/10, service 10/10, and the tastiness 12/10. We ordered the ulu and the chicken long rice croquette for starters, and whoa…hello umami bomb!! For our mains we ordered the sausage and clams along with the house bread, the ludovico chicken, and the opakapaka which was a special…we obviously took home food because it was too much but we wanted to try it all. It’s hard to rank all these dishes because everything was so different and tasted amazing. The clear winner tho was the chicken long rice croquette. We haven’t recovered since! We will be back to enjoy their rotating menu. We hear their weekend brunch is a must!
My sister first introduced me to this restaurant ~10 years ago? We tried the family style meal last night for 4 and it was very good. I love the farm-to-table fresh produce, Hawaiian-Asian fusion flavorings innovative mixes offered in their cocktails and their dishes and sauces. The dining area is spacious and they keep their "garage" glass wall open to encourage healthy air flow. The host and our server (new trainee flying solo) were friendly and helpful. It can be more challenging to hear softer voices in the restaurant because of the interior decor.
